Saint-Pierre was the original capital city of Martinique. All, but a few building foundations, were wiped clean from the coast by the explosive eruption of Mont Pelee in 1902. Only one person survived the eruption, a prisoner locked in solitary confinement in a tomb of a prison building.
People returned to the city and began repopulating it when the mountain calmed two years later. Mont Pelee is still classified as an active volcano an is being monitored.
You can anchor any where along the towns extensive black beach. The depth drops away quickly, so you need to anchor close to shore or the large ferry dock.
The town has a Vulcanology museum and preserved some ruins for the tourists. There are also some rum distilleries near by. All of which we will get out and photograph for you.
Mont Pelee is usually shrouded in cloud cover, but I managed to get a picture of it for you.
I will write more when I get a chance……but I will leave you with a Sundowner.

Good to see that they’ve found you a park Quinn.
I like the idea of sharing a sundowner with you, just catching up on the days I’ve missed.
Keep posting pictures of sunsets for me I could get used to this
Love the blog. We are now heading back to a vey cold UK, next Tuesday. Brrrrr! We have never been to St Pierre but it looks very interesting. We managed three weeks down to Union Is and back to St Lucia. One day you will see the green flash and marvel and it won’t be the rum!! Good luck with the rest of your sailing adventures. I shall follow with interest and may be we will see you again. Fair winds. Daphne. (Dream Traveller)

We have been very lucky to run into you and thank you for sharing your wisdom. We hope that we can be travelling the Caribbean for two more years and will surely be by you again.
