My Nan and Grandad have arrived from England.
Nan thinks we live a real hard life here.
We moved the boat from anchor off the beach and onto a mooring buoy inside the bay.
The bay is very sheltered so the boat will not move much for Nan and Grandad. As they have decided to try staying on the boat!!!
Staying in the bay is costing us £10/night (off-season rate), but it does put everyone close to the shops and cafes, showers and also a swimming pool.
Luckily we are still right near the beach so I can go for a run.
I have also gotten to improve my swimming skills here as there are no nasty breaking waves.
The human women have taken to doing some exercise with me in the mornings.
And at night we have a lovely view of the sun setting through the palm trees from the boat.
Of course Nan and Grandad had to be introduced to SUNDOWNERS.
I took them to the ‘dog friendly’ Doolittles for happy hour. Half priced rum cocktails as the sun went down.
Then the humans decided to rent a car and go explore the island a bit.
Saint Lucia’s lofty ancient volcanic peaks capture moisture from the Atlantic winds so the island gets a healthy dose of rain. The soil is rich and produces a whole rich variety of fruits and vegetables along with amazing diversity in the rain forest.
The local waters are rich in sea life and support a string of fishing villages and towns.
Some of the fishing villages attract tourists by holding weekend seafood roasts.
The west coast road winds up and down into these fishing villages and the surrounding rainforested hills.
Some of the plants in the forest seem ancient. reminiscent of dinosaur movies.
Then as they rounded the bend in the road the famous Pitons came into view.
These volcanic peaks tower over the town of Soufriere.
The humans headed for the town and the famous Hummingbird Beach Resort.
Here they had a lovely meal with a great view.
From Hummingbird Resort they all headed further south into the Pitons.
And stopped at Sugar Beach.
This lovely beach is nestled between the Pitons and is famous for great snorkeling.
It was my Nan’s first time using a snorkel and mask to see the beautiful colourful fish right on the beach.
The Sugar Beach Resort will provide you with ‘tut tut’ transport from the car park, at the top of the hill, to the beach below and back.
They will do this for free if you make a purchase at their bar or restaurant.
They had a peak at a couple of the other touristy attractions, but really ran out of time. So they will have to rent a car again to see more of the island.
For now it was back to the boat and some more swimming and relaxing.
The weather has not been perfect sun shine as we get the occasional rain shower blow through.
But it is quickly followed by sunshine again and it sometimes keeps them in my company for longer.
