Well, the humans had a great time snorkeling and diving off the island of Canouan. The dive sites on the island were incredibly unspoiled. There are some great pictures and a video of diving with Eagle rays to come.
We moved south to the little town in Charlestown Bay, but it was very rolly. The human’s had wanted to try and get access to the reefs on the East side of the island, but after a long hike and climb down hill sides, it turned out not to be a safe feasibility for them. Maybe if the winds were a bit lighter they could have brought the boat or the dingy round.
So we took off to the one area we all really wanted to see the famous ‘Tobago Cays’.
It was an incredibly quick sail south. We were anchored back up in less then two hours after leaving Canouan. It was a bit scary weaving in between the reefs to get into the middle of the desert islands, but we got a great spot right beside the designated turtle snorkeling area.
The water here is amazing. It is like picture post card. Blue-blue water. White-white sand. Palm trees and sea breezes.
The humans have been in the water already and declare there are loads of turtles and rays. They promise lots of pictures and video when they finally get internet.
The park rangers are very nice here, and you can negotiate a fair price with them if you want to stay longer then 4 days in the area. This is easily done, as there are 4 small islands to explore behind the main reef and another island and circular reef east of that. The humans plan on doing lots of snorkeling in the area. Self diving in prohibited. There is some nasty rainy weather heading our way at the end of the week, but we will just enjoy the sun while we can.
We plan on staying here a week, and then heading west to Mayreau.
We will do our best, with the help of SSB radio and Uncle Steve, to keep you up to date.
