SAILING AROUND THE WORLD WITH SPIRIT OF ARGO

The Grenadines: Tobago Cay’s Marine Park – pictures and video

TC-introduction shot

The blurb in Chris Doyles ‘Sailors Guide’ says it all:

‘The Tobago Cays are a group of small deserted islands, protected from the sea by Horseshoe Reef.

The water and reef colours are a kaleidoscope of gold, brown, blue, turquoise, and green.

There are small sand beaches and clear water.

On cloudless nights, the stars are cast across the sky like wedding confetti thrown in an excessive gesture of bonhomie.

Even squalls can be dramatically beautiful as they approach from afar.

The anchorage is, however, open to the full force of the ocean winds, which are occasionally strong.’

We had fun negotiating into the Marine Park through the reefs of the North entrance. We anchored up between Jamesby and Baradel islands.  We took most of the pictures with the underwater camera, so sorry they are not as clear.  We took the picture from Baradel island and you can see the beautiful white sands of the beach on Jamesby in the distance.
The Horseshoe Reef protected us from most of the surf, but none of the wind coming across the Atlantic Ocean. You can see the island of Petit Tabac in the distance. This was another 'Pirates of the Caribbean' film location.

If you are lucky you will catch a glimpse of the resident population of igwanas. But you have to be fast...and shoes are advisable...ouch!

But the real crowning jewel of the Marine Park is not on land.
