The humans were getting tired of living out of cans and were getting desperate for fresh fruit and vegetables.
They were also down to their last roll of toilet paper.
It was time to head to Clifton on Union Island to resupply.
The winds had eased a bit and the channel between Mayreau and Union looked a lot calmer, so we went for it. Double reefed the boat ‘flew’ to Union.
Approaching Clifton Harbour from the north, you have to come around the reef that protects it. This affords you a good first time look at the famous Janti’s Happy Island. This island/bar was built by Janti on the reef from the fisherman’s waste conch shells.
The harbour was not that busy, so we were able to get anchored up right behind the reef in the protected NW corner, despite the pesky anchor balls everywhere.
It did not take long for the humans to jump in their kayaks to go exploring.
But first into town for supplies.
On their walk into the town centre the humans discovered the harbour was filled with these colourful boats and even had a mobile-floating bar.
As it is the ‘off season’ many are pulled up ashore.
They also found that the shoreline right in town was a warren of pathways and lagoons. Some of them with surprising inhabitants.
In the town centre you will find all the fruit and vegetables you need from the lovely brightly coloured vendors.
The humans are all stocked up, but the very strong winds have returned until the end of the week. The kite surfers, in the harbour, are really enjoying it!
