SAILING AROUND THE WORLD WITH SPIRIT OF ARGO

Moliniere Point, Grenada (finally on the main island) – The Underwater Sculpture Park

It was time for us to sail on to the ‘big’ island of Grenada.  The weather remains very settled so we thought we would make some stop offs before heading to the protected anchorages of the south coast.

Great winds and smooth seas, except the very north end of the island, where it was a bit bumpy even in the fair weather.

As you can see, I do not let much interrupt my afternoon siesta.

We sailed down the west coast of Grenada with plans to stop at Underwater Sculpture Park, off Moliniere Point, found just before the island capital city of Saint George.

The area is a National Park, so there was no anchoring near by, but instead they offer mooring buoys in Happy Hill (Flamingo) Bay, or closer by in Dragon Bay and the north end of Grand Mall Bay.  We were lucky enough to tie onto a buoy in the north end of Grand Mall Bay, within snorkelling distance of the point and park.

The humans were ‘itching’ to get in a snorkel before they lost the good light.

The human’s found the statues in the sandy corridors between the reef or placed on the sides where it was rocky and clear of coral.

The majority of the statues where in shallow water, but many of the more interesting collections were a bit deeper.

The humans decided that they would pay the National Park authorities (£26 EC) for a stay overnight on the buoy and try a dive in the morning light.

You are 'really' supposed to pay and go with an organised group, so they had to be very sneaky, and slip in a dive before the regular tour oporators arrived or the park authorities. Naughty humans!

Diving afforded the human's a little more time to get some photos and video for you guys.

The original stone circle of children, now over grown with hard and soft corals, was damaged in a storm.

Although the sculpture is damaged, the growth on the old ring of children is very beautiful

The sculptor of the original ring of children, made a new exhibition, that was just sunk recently.

I could ‘bore you to death’ with all the pictures I got the humans to take, but instead I made a little compilation video of some of the sculpture highlights for you.
