After a quick shopping trip to at the capital of Guadeloupe, Basse Terre, we headed on North up the island towards Point Maliendure and Pigeon Island to the Cousteau National Marine Park.

The impressive mountains of Guadeloupe’s west coast capture rain making it a rich and fertile island.  Sailing along this coast can be challenging as the mountains create eddies of calm spaced between channels of wind acceleration.  But lots of fun!

The main beach here has a dock for all the diving boats, but you can tie your dingy close to shore. Remember your dingy anchor here.

The anchorage is right on the edge of the Cousteau National Marine Park and both the diving and snorkelling are good here.  Expensive, if you want to use one of the multitude of dive shops here.  Luckely you can dive on your own if you like.  Perfect for my ‘cheap’ owners.

The anchorage is also renowned for it's sunset view out towards Pigeon Island.

Unfortunately the anchorage offers no protection from the SW swell.  It makes it very rolly.  The quick ‘drop off’ makes kedging yourself into the waves difficult, especially in strong winds.

When the pots and pans started jumping off the stove, even with the gimbal released, the we knew it was time to find a more sheltered anchorage.
