We used the full moon to make an overnight passage from Barbuda to St.Barts
It was a rolly down wind slog, and we were very happy to see St.Barts with the dawn.
Our bad fishing luck in the Caribbean was finally broken on the passage with this nice little Wahoo. We anchored up in the main harbour of Gustavia, the only place on the island you can check in and out of.The anchorage, just outside of the main harbour is nice enough, but $10US/day and very rolly. Those with a bit bigger budget can moor up inside the harbour. Not sure how much it costs to moor up inside the harbour, but at least you will be in good companyJust watch out for inferiority complexesThere is a little bit of money ‘flying around’ in the GustaviaIt is a very pretty town to walk around and there are some lovely hikes in the surrounding hills
You can even hike up to the air field and watch the private planes land
If you get really, really sick of rolly about on the hook here. Just a few miles north is a much more protected anchorage.
We had to escape the rolling so we could finally get some sleep and complete some repairs, with out loosing our sanityAnse de Colombier. We should have come here in the first place. It is free to anchor or take a mooring buoy here.It is a much nicer place to go swimming. And only a 20 minute dingy ride over to Gustavia from here. The only trouble is the signs on the beaches everywhere here. I do not know why they do not like black dogs so much?? So glad I am a red head
Nothing stops me getting around
There are some nice hikes throw the hills here in Anse de Colombier tooOther towns and beaches near by to explore with friends
It is not all perfect beaches and anchorages when sailing. The fore-sail (jenny) needed a full restitch, as it came apart with all the UV damage. All the rigging needed tightening too. Our portable sewing machine is earning its keep again.
The toilet ‘packed up’ and needed a full make over. It needed to be de-scaled and all the washers on the piston replaced. Then the alternator gave up on the engine. We needed to remove and replace that. Luckily a spare came with the boat when we bought her.Even with all the repairs to complete we still found time to meet up with other cruisers and have a beach BBQ at sundown,The humans are always looking for an excuse to have a SUNDOWNER
We have heard that the next island north, Sint Maartin/Saint Martin is the best for price and selection when sourcing replacement parts.
