As you know, I like a good ‘swimming’ beach.
So I got the humans moving North again in the hopes they will find me one along the way.
Next stop Governor’s Harbour. The weather had settled, but we still got hit by the edge of one squall and ran into our first fishing pots in a very long while.
These pots are a navigational hazard. Even while sailing, the lines can get caught on your keel or prop. So I had to put the humans on constant watch as we threaded through lines of them stretching out from the coast.
We discovered latter, they were Crab pots. The island is famous for it’s rock crab.
It was not long before we had our first sight of the pretty settlement of Governor’s Harbour.
The harbour has a bad reputation for holding, but we found the anchor dug in and buried well.
From here the humans had easy access to the town centre.
Lots of shops right on the waterfront. There are 2 liquor stores, 2 grocery stores, a dive shop, ice cream parlour, hardware shop, take outs and small restaurants all a few steps away.
The centre has a park, baseball diamond and is surrounded by some nice homes.
But, and this is the clincher, not the best beach.
The beach is inside the harbour, so it is a little dirty, and runs very shallow a long way out.
I have heard from the locals that the best beaches are on the East coast. Perhaps we will have to get over there and see.
For now, it was an OK stop for the humans to get a few things for the pantry, but not a Caribbean ‘beauty’ spot.
Eleuthera seems to be more famous for its caves.
We heard there was a great Bat cave further up the coast, so we will head there tomorrow.
Spelunkers ahoy!
