We lifted anchor at Annie’s Bight early in the morning to catch a ‘favourable’ tide through Current Cut and the Northern end of Eleuthera Island.
There was barely a breath of wind and the Bight of Eleuthera was like a swimming pool. A crystal clear 4m deep swimming pool!
Our friends Jake and Sarah on Prospero joined us and we got both boats through the cut with a favourable tide.
From here the two boats split up. Prospero headed NE to Spanish Wells while we headed NW to Royal and Egg Island.
With no wind to sail we motored on to Royal Island and entered the very protected anchorage inside the centre of the island here.
There was nothing wrong with the anchorage, but it was not very pretty and lacked a beach for me. I convinced the humans to move on.
So we lifted anchor and headed through another cut and around to the back side of Egg Island. Here we found a lovely anchorage!
Here we found a lovely beach surrounded by crystal clear water.
It was lovely to have the whole beach and anchorage to ourselves.
The sandy anchorage, just off the beach, was surrounded by a very good reef that was a great snorkel right from the boat. We saw a great variety of sea fans, coral arches, huge nurse sharks, hawksbill turtles and a plural of fish, especially large schools in the cut.
We even tried diving from the kayaks.
In the afternoons, the local resorts dropped off small groups of guests on the surrounding reef for snorkel trips, but the rest of the time we had the place to ourselves.
The sunsets were wonderful each evening and I will leave you a few shots to enjoy a SUNDOWNER with.
Sometimes you wonder if we really need anything else.
A word of warning to any boater planning to come here. This lovely sandy anchorage is surrounded by an extensive reef. You will need ‘good light’ above or behind you to find the sandy passage into the north end of the beach and then turn south to find this sand continues ‘like a corridor’ between the beech and reef.
Hope that helps.

What crazy clear water! It looks like the kayak is floating in air, like a blue magic carpet.
