One problem with the Bahamas is…
it is very, very shallow.
Especially for our boat with a 2m draft. We have learned to cut if very close.
We try to find sandy spots with no rocks and get in as shallow as we can.
Before coming to the Bahamas we never contemplated anchoring some where with 10cm under the keel at low tide.
Even so we are still often quite a ways out from harbours and beaches.
It does not help if you also arrive close to a full moon, because it is this time of the month that you get the largest tides (highest high tide and lowest low tide). It is the first place I have ever seen regular ‘minus’ chart datum (at low tide it is below the listed depth on charts).
But in the Sea of Abaco you are well protected, even if you are no where near anything.
We anchored off Tiloo Cay so we could have access to Lubbers Quarter and their famous ‘Full Moon’ party.
The humans went off to find some internet (as their data card had run out) and check out the venue for the Full Moon Party.
They do it up well here. Restaurants on the island have their own dockage.
They also have their own beach and volleyball area to attract people.
They also have lots of interesting decorations and signage.
We are a long way from Kansas Dorothy.
The restaurant is rather nice as well.
Yes it is legal to sell Cuban cigars here, and the American tourists love them.
The humans got some emails off and decided to return in the evening for the full moon party. Our friends on Prospero had a shallow enough draft to anchor right outside the place.
The humans dingied back in time to see the moon rise and enjoy the festivities.
Now parties may be the humans thing, but beaches are mine and there is a great beach here off the south end of Elbow Cay called Tahiti Beach
This is a great sandy beach that extends well out to sea with plenty of shallow water for me to run about on.
A great place for running about.
What more do you need in life?
I am just glad that the humans are not put off by the shallow waters here, because I love it.
