SAILING AROUND THE WORLD WITH SPIRIT OF ARGO

Abacos, Man Of War Cay – Cute as a button

IMG_5814

We sailed across the Sea of Abaco from Great Abaco Island to Man Of War Cay.

This small cay has a harbour and settlement that is famous historically for boat building.  They still build boats here and now have a small pleasant Marina in their harbour.

Our draft made anchoring off the beach north of the harbour a more sensible choice.  We also choose to walk into the settlement, rather than dingy along the coast.  Glad we did as the pleasant small cottages on the island are beautifully kept with manicured gardens.

I will just leave you with a load of pictures and you can judge the place for yourself.

Palm lined road into town. Just wide enough for the golf carts they love here.

We noticed that people had put bells at the entrances to their properties.

Every property, on the outskirts of town, had a bell at there gate. Are you to warn the home owner that you are going to break their solitude?

It is difficult to get lost in the tiny settlement, but they still provide you with a map to their two grocery stores, two restaurants and variety of shops. It is a 'dry' settlement and does not sell any alcohol and frowns upon any drinking in public.

The islanders here have a great sense of humour with drive markers. This home owner put out an alligator.

Their are lots of places to stop off and cool off along the way. Either in the settled Sea of Abacos
