SAILING AROUND THE WORLD WITH SPIRIT OF ARGO

Abacos, Allans-Pensacola Cay – Time to say goodbye to the Bahamas

Allans-Pensacola Cay Anchorage

Allans and Pensacola cays on the northeast shelf of Little Bahama Bank was once separate islands until a hurricane brought them together.

Excellent snorkelling off of rocks on its southern tip and out on the barrier reef, there is little of note near the anchorage itself.

This would end up being our last ‘port of call’ in the Bahamas.

Although we are still suffering from ‘lack of wind’ there is a small chance that the Abacos could be hit by ‘too much wind’ next week.  We have decided to be safe rather than sorry and headed out towards Florida.

I am actually writing this as we are heading out one of the channels through the barrier reef and out into the Atlantic.  We have no wind, and are having to motor, but it is better than getting wind in the wrong direction.  We may still get hit by that along the way.

We are going to ‘ride the weather’ to see how far north we get up the Florida coast before pulling in.  If the weather holds we may get as far as Cape Canaveral.  If it does not, then we will have to stop somewhere along the way.

Cross your fingers we get fair weather and we will contact you all ‘on the other side’.
