Still moving north, still no wind and still motoring from Cay to Cay.
We said goodbye to our lovely beach on the north end of Manjack CayAnd motored through the perfectly calm clear waters of the Sea of AbacosThe seas are SO FLAT here that we have gotten very ‘complacent’ with stowing things on the deck. Look at this mess.We passed the beautiful beach on Powell Cay on route to Spanish Cay. We decided not to stop at Powell Cay because our cruising guide warned that it was ‘mosquito infested’. We did not fancy another repeat of Crab Cay.But as we peered through the binoculars at Spanish Cay we could only see a rocky shored anchorage. Now good for me. So I convinced the humans of the error of their ways and back to Powell Cay we headed. We just anchored off the Cay a little further hoping, if it was bad for bugs, they would have to fly a lot further to get to us.The waters here were crystal clear. You could look right over the side of the boat and see starfish on the bottom and fish swimming by.And, as usual, not much room under the keelThe humans headed off in their kayaks to explore a wreck and the shorelineThe wreck was in very shallow waterSurrounded with thick clouds of tiny shimmering silver fish.Fun to ‘horse around’ inThe shoreline around the anchorage was very shallow. With the clear waters, the humans were able to ‘sneak up on’ innumerable grazing green turtles and fish. They even got a ‘shot off’ of a nurse shark who came right up to the beach
The anchorage was a lovely place to stop.
As for the cruising guide, that is another subject. It warned of mosquitos, and we did not have one. But then, it did not say a word about bugs at Crab Cay and we were inundated. It said the snorkelling here was good, and we found it ‘lacking’. Our friends on Prospero used their dingy to circumnavigated the Cay and did not find anything ‘special’ to draw you here. So you have to be careful using cruising guide information.
As long as it has a great beach for me to run on, who cares!
