SAILING AROUND THE WORLD WITH SPIRIT OF ARGO

Bahamas, here we come

We said goodbye to many of the good friends we made in Green Cove Springs, Florida.

(Pictures to come later).

We headed off in the morning for the long trip out the St.Johns River to the ocean.  Our plans are to head out into the Atlantic and turn south straight down to the Berry Islands of the Bahamas.  We are going to aim for Great Harbour Cay as our point of entry (a place where there are officials to check us into a new country).

But before we can do all that we needed to get under all those bridges, something we have been lucky with so far.  Well our luck ran out this time.

The notorious rail road bridge, in the centre of Jacksonville, broke down AGAIN.  It now blocked all outgoing traffic on the St.Johns river.  There was no other way to get to the sea.  We anchored up in the river hoping that the engineers they had called might get something sorted.

We knew bad weather was coming next week, so if we did not get out of the St.Johns River in the next few days, we were spending Christmas in Green Cove Springs, Florida.

But just as we were contemplating the worst the bridge master made a general announcement to the boats waiting that they had fixed it.  Main Street Bridge was happy to open for us all 15 minutes later.  The rest of the bridges down the river were tall enough for us to get under.

So it looks like, if all goes well, we will be in the Bahamas for Christmas.

We fill you all in when we get there.

Fair winds and following seas!
