The winds have been out of the south-east lately, so the humans got lots and lots of tacking practice.
We anchored off a lovely little sandy beach and jumped into the kayaks for an explore.
A well-marked short trail up from the beach led to a fresh water well.
These rare fresh water wells were vital in the history and development of the Exumas. With the development and proliferation of reverse osmosis providing fresh water to the population on the cays they have lost their importance. Even so, we all enjoyed a fresh water rinse.
The well path crossed over the peninsula and led to the mouth of a river leading into the Cay.
Definitely someplace that needs exploring tomorrow!
But tonight we have some Lobster to prepare for our New Years dinner.
So back to the kayaks and off to the boat to prepare dinner.
Warning to other ‘dog bloggers’: Dogs are only allowed on the beaches in the Exumas Land and Sea Park and not allowed on the trails around the Cays.
Also, they expect us all to be on a lead so we do not bother the local wildlife.
Unfortunately we lost all our internet coverage on New Years day, so we were unable to update you until now.
Now we have internet again I did a little review of the year past in the:
Happy New Year separate page.
Have a peek.
And a belated Happy New Year to everyone!
