SAILING AROUND THE WORLD WITH SPIRIT OF ARGO

Bahamas, Exumas, Great Guana Cay – A quick visit to Black Point Settlement

One of my humans had a birthday coming up and he expressed an interest in some cracked conch and Guinness Foreign Extra. Both of which are more local fair so I sent them off to Black Point Settlement on Great Guana Cay.

I finally got the humans 'ship shape' for up wind sailing.

Of course I made them work for their dinners.  It was a long day of tacking to wind before we anchored up off the beach beside the lovely settlement at Black Point.

Two for the price of one beers were announced over the radio and we were off for a pre-birthday celebration.

The winds and weather were to build up and get very strong from the North over the next few days.  Not to worry as there lots of lovely anchorages all up and down the Exumas to tuck into for protection.  Also, if you do not mind a little chop, you can usually keep sailing on the lee of the Exumas along the shallow Great Bahama Bank between the Cays.

Unfortunately we had a bit of a deadline to get to George Town in time to pick up a friend.  So we decided to use the last of the fair weather to sail south.  This meant I did not have an extra day to take pictures of the beach and settlement for you, sorry.  It also meant we needed to get going at first light to make George Town before dark.

But do not forget it was one of my humans Birthdays.  I try to treat them sometimes, so I stayed up late and baked his favorite cookies and decorated the boat.

This way I did not have to feel guilty dragging him out of bed to walk me on the beach before the sun was up.

Now mark this on your diaries!  I actually got the humans up and lifting anchor before the sun came up.  Well almost.

The madness of George Town…..here we come!
