SAILING AROUND THE WORLD WITH SPIRIT OF ARGO

Fakarava, Tuamotus Archipelago, French Polynesia – Going grocery shopping

Now most of you guys NOT living on a boat probably take grocery shopping for granted.  You jump in your car, drive down the shops, pick up what ever you need and drive home.  Easy right?

Grocery shopping for the crew of Spirit of Argo, in the Tuamotus of French Polynesia, is not QUITE as easy.

First you have to sail to an inhabited atoll with a large enough village that a supply ship will stop at.

You have to time your arrival to the supply ship schedule. The some only come once a month.

Arrive too early, or late, and the fresh fruits and vegetables will be all gone.

If you can not get the weather or timing right to meet the supply ship, some times there are local farmers willing to sell some thing to you.

If you do get your timing right you often have to run to a couple of local shops to find what you need.

No quick ‘pop to the shops’ to fill Spirit of Argo’s pantry.

Supply ship unloading at Rotoava village peir.

Now we are all stocked up again with food, fuel and propane, so where to next you ask.

Oh, that is a surprise!

Leaving tomorrow and you will have to wait 540nm to find out.

I will give you a hint.  With all the international boarders closed in the South Pacific,  it will have to be somewhere in French Polynesia.
